CULOE DE SONG BIOGRAPHY
Born in the northern parts of South Africa’s east coast, Culolethu Zulu, also known as “Culoe De Song”, hasn’t looked back after putting passion in the forefront of his life. Culoe’s music has been described
as “epic African house with a strange touch,” while he sums it up as
“a dramatic vibration of ‘the drum’.”

Culoe’s chords sky-write while his rhythms writhe, and more than any other South African house artist, he’s managed to successfully segue international and local sounds – mixing the best beats from both worlds.

Culoe’s serious music career began in early 2007 when he produced a piece that made him a feature in Black Coffee’s second offering, “Have Another One”. The track was named “100 Zulu Warriors” and carries a fundamental importance for Culoe De Song as he regards it as ‘his beginning’ in the circle of music in South Africa.

In 2008, he produced a number of projects that gained him international recognition and he performed alongside international acts such as Rocco, Manoo, Black Coffee, and Vinny Da Vinci. But not before his performance as a DJ was recognized by DJ Christos, one of South Africa’s pioneers in the dance music scene.

He then joined Soulistic Music, a label founded by Black Coffee and it’s been a great adventure for Culoe De Song as a member of this family. Tracks such as “Dwellers of the Jungle”, “Inspiration”, “100 Zulu Warriors (Remix)” made compilation releases in South Africa. Culoe De Song also achieved a great involvement with the Red Bull Music Academy after being selected to be one of the worldwide participants to attend the Academy in Barcelona, Spain in 2008. During that time Culoe De Song performed in places such as Club Macarena and Fellini in Barcelona.

In 2009, Culoe De Song signed under Germany’s Innervisions, a family of acts such as Dixon, Ame, and Henrik Schwarz, releasing tracks such as “The Bright Forest”, “Super Afro”, and “African Subway”.
It was "The Bright Forest" EP that introduced him to a wider European audience and electronic scene. At this point, Culoe also began working on a number of projects as part of his emerging international introduction, including the Reggie Dokes “Let Me Go” EP released on Boddhi Satva’s Offering Recordings, Belgium.

Culoe De Song then started on his international showings while at the same time releasing his debut album, “A Giant Leap”, an album that went gold.
The album got him award nominations in multiple categories, for the 2010 South African Music Awards, the Namibian Museke Awards, and the 2010 Metro FM awards.
He released his second album “Elevation” in 2011, where he collaborated with France’s deep house DJ and producer Rocco as well as local South African acts like Goldfish and funk dub four piece 340ml. “Elevation” took his trademark, trance-inducing deep house into what he describes as “a new and evolutionary stage.

In 2013, Culoe De Song released his third album “Exodus” and continued his momentum with international touring, with bookings at the renowned Weather Festival in Paris as well as at a special Innervisions showcase during Amsterdam Dance Event. Culoe De Song also participated in a Boiler Room session in London, alongside Kyle Hall, Theo Parrish, Mosca, and Omar S in March 2013.

In 2014, Culoe De Song released “Y.O.U.D.” EP on Innervisions which received high accolades by label boss, Dixon, and ranked #1 on Resident Advisor’s October 2015 Top 50 Chart as well as hitting #7 on Beatport’s Deep House chart. In September 2014, Culoe De Song completed his first tour in Asia with stops in Seoul, Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, and Bali. Culoe De Song was also booked to play during one of the closing parties of influential Amsterdam venue Trouw in December 2014.

In 2015, Culoe De Song will participate in a Boiler Room alongside other South African musicians Black Coffee and Shimza, which will take place in Johannesburg. Culoe is also slated to play the first ever Further Future festival to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada in May 2015.
