Moving Frames Festival 2010, Lesvos Island, GR.

In September 2009 art groups of Mytilene worked together in order to bring to life a cultural concept in the heart of the city’s public area. With the only guideline the combination of digital technology and the use of public space showings and installations, digital and analog, were presented in different spots of the city. This activity attracted the interest of artists not only throughout the country but from abroad as well. In addition to that the citizens of Mytilene, driven by simple curiosity in the beginning, were open and positive to this attempt.
We feel that this operation is the first step and an important foundation for us to go on with the same concept, concerning the use of the space we live and move in, beyond any form of commercial exploitation. We believe that active citizens have the power and imagination to form the space they live in by themselves!
The 2nd Moving Frames Festival is one more step towards the establishment of this awareness. We choose digital forms of art in order to present the urban space and to express views and concerns that cannot be expressed in other ways.
The artists are requested to send their works, old or new, in order to be presented in different spots in the city of Mytilene. This year we suggest the topic: In-Formation. Is information experience, event, emotion, processed data, conclusion, expression, representation, fact? Images, words, sensations, illusions, objects, memories, expressions of a dream? A painting, a melody, a sequence of bits, a building, a wink, the sound of a voice, a news bulletin, an archaeological monument, a school history book, a festival, an economic policy, a decision, a disease, a children’s game?
Same as last year, the Festival Moving Frames 2010 is not a competition. The invitation is open to every form of art that incorporates these concerns und uses digital technology (video-art, animation, experimental video, installations etc.). The activities will take place in different spots in the city of Mytilene. The participants themselves will form their spaces.
Submission deadline: 10/09
